The Beginning of our Story
A good God created a good universe and formed humans as His image bearers. All relationships were characterized by shalom. We enjoyed peace with God, peace with one another, and peace with creation. Genesis 1:1, Genesis 1:26-27
Tragedy and Loss
Humans rebelled against God, choosing to worship self instead of God. Shalom was shattered. Peace was ruptured. Romans 1:25
God Creates a Covenant People
Gods answer to evil was to call a man named Abram and bring forth a special covenant people to shine as lights and through whom God would bless the world. However, Israel failed to be faithful to God. God, forever faithful, refused to give up.
A New Hope
Jesus, the Son of God, entered this world in a surprising way, fulfilling and carrying forward Israel's story. Jesus, fully God and fully human, stepped into our world as a baby born of a virgin. Jesus revealed the Father through His life, death, and resurrection. Matthew 1:20-25, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
The Good News that God Reigns
Jesus came announcing the good news that God reigns. He offers forgiveness, salvation, freedom, transformation, and eternal life to those who REPENT (turn to Him) and BELIEVE (place their confidence in Him). Jesus offers eternal life starting now! He came to set captives free! Mark 1:15
Death and Resurrection
Humanity responded to Jesus' life and message in much the same way we had responded to God since the beginning. We rejected and crucified him. When all hope seemed lost forever, JESUS ROSE FROM THE DEAD! 40 days later he ascended into heaven. As Christians we identify with Jesus in his death and resurrection through faith. John 19:28-30, John 20:1-2, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
The Story Continues
Those who know Jesus walk with Him by faith and are sustained daily by His grace. He calls us to a daily life of discipleship, following him and learning to obey Him. We live by the power of His presence (Acts 1:8) and in hope of His return to make all things new (Revelation 21:1-6). Until He returns, He has given us our marching orders in the Great Command (Matthew 22:36-40) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). Those who know Jesus are never alone!
Have you turned from self worship and believed in Jesus as Lord?
If so, the NEXT STEP is to follow Jesus in baptism (Romans 6:4), join a local church (1 Corinthians 12:12-15), and use your gifts to fulfill the Great Commission!
