Group Discussion - Teach Us To Pray

Posted by Matt McGowen on

True Prayer Reveres God, is Rooted in Scripture, and Results in Mission.

Luke 11:1-4

Discussion Questions:

  • When it comes to prayer, what is your biggest challenge or obstacle?
  • In Luke 11:1, one of the disciples asks Jesus, 'teach us to pray.'  Asking Jesus to teach us to pray is a great prayer!  Read Romans 8:26.  How does this verse bring encouragement?
  • In the model prayer Jesus gives, we acknowledge that God is worthy and we are needy.  Look at the photo of Daniel Henderson's 4/4 pattern of prayer, based on the model prayer.  How can this help your prayer life?
  • What is the benefit of praying Scripture? Sunday we practiced these 4 movements with Psalm 19:1. What is another good Scripture passage to pray through in this way?
  • In Luke 10:1-2 Jesus tells us to pray to the Lord of the harvest to raise up laborers to send into the harvest. What happens in your heart as you pray this prayer?
  • What is the relationship of prayer to God's mission? Why do we sometimes use 'I'll pray about it' as an excuse to avoid God's mission?
  • In Luke 10:17-21 Jesus tells us to rejoice that our name is written in the book of life. What happens in your heart as your pray/rejoice in this way?
  • 'Part of why prayer is such a struggle for us is that we treat it like it is fundamentally about us.'  Do you agree or disagree with this statement? What does it look like to seek God's face in prayer?
  • How can you be encouraged that GOD is who makes prayer powerful? And He helps us in our weakness!
